osu! is a free and open-sourcerhythm game developed and published by Australian-based company PPY Developments PTY,^[2] created by Dean Herbert (also known as Peppy or ppy). Originally released for Microsoft Windows on September 16, 2007, the game has also been ported to macOS, and Windows Phone. Its gameplay is based on titles including osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents, Taiko no Tatsujin, Beatmania IIDX, O2Jam, and DJMax.

Beatmaps contain storyboards, hitsounds, and multiple patterns which are unique to each map.

Jeuxvideo.com reviewed osu! favorably with 18/20 points in 2015.^[6] In 2010, MMOGames.com reviewer Daniel Ball said that while the game was very similar to Elite Beat Agents, it was differentiated by its community's large library of high-quality community made content and customization.^[7]

osu!Stream[edit]

osu!Stream is a mobile rhythm game that essentially mimics osu!. Both games are developed by Dean Herbert, and is only available for devices running IOS 6.0 and later. Differences between osu! and osu!Stream is while osu!’s maps are user created, osu!Stream maps are not. New gameplay elements include, the hold button, and being able to hit two hit circles at once.^[8]As of 4/30/2019 osu!Stream has not been updated.
